A wan is a network with the purpose of connecting networked computers that are located far away with the use of long-range telecommunication links. We use telephone system to make phone calls from work or from home, while in wans, communication for over long distance use telecommunication links in order to communicate. There are two kinds of wans, the enterprise wan and the global wan. The difference between the two wans is that the enterprise wan is generally owned by an organization, while the global wan is not owned by an company and has the capability to cross national boundaries.
Setting an example for a wan would be a company, networked together, sharing information privately and securely, using the internet or public telecommunication lines, in different countries or cities. The devices that are used in this kind of a wan would have the purpose of transferring and receiving information to and from each other, and these are the PCs, routers, TC/IP protocol and others.

These agencies are also setup to share information among other government agencies within the same state or all over the country.
